2024 Season Roundup

Welcome to the Kirkbymoorside Bowling Club Season Review for 2024. The Club enjoyed another busy and very successful year, with our membership numbers slightly higher than in 2023. As in previous years, we continued to run a full programme of events, which included :-

Social Bowling held on Tuesday afternoons

We were pleased to again have 3 teams playing in the various local bowling leagues and thank the captains of these teams for the work they do to keep these teams running. Below is a summary of how our teams performed in 2024 together with photographs. Full league tables can be found on the website for each league.

 

HOVINGHAM & DISTRICT BOWLS LEAGUE

Hovingham and District Bowls League team led by Captain Malcolm Richardson had a remarkable 2024 season in the league losing only one game to local rivals Pickering. The team won the league by a margin of 23 points over 2nd place Thirsk A. Over the season there has been some really good team performances and have managed to field a strong team at all times.

The team had a good run in the Leagues Waltham Cup and reached the final in which they were runners up to Pickering who beat them in the final. History has been made by the team this year by winning the Hovingham league 3 seasons consecutively 22, 23 & 24, the first time that kirkbymoorside have done this since the club joined the league In 1979. At the presentation evening the Team captain dedicated the latest success to all past members of the the club that played in the league over the years, and also thanked all team members that have played this season.

 

BATAGAS RYEDALE TRIPLES BOWLS LEAGUE

Kirkbymoorside Bowling Club created history in winning the Batagas League this season. Captained by Bob Sinclair, with a wealth of experienced bowlers and a trio of new bowlers the team lost only two matches all season and won the league by 25 points from second placed Terrington. This was the first season since 2013 that the league had not been won by Malton and the first time Kirkbymoorside had won the title. To cap it off the Fred Husband Trophy was also secured. What a fantastic season. At the Presentation Evening Kirkby played a Rest of the League Team and won the match 64-43. Bob was presented with the League Winners and Fred Husband Trophy from the sponsors and a framed memento from the players. He thanked everyone concerned from the League Management Committee for their hard work this season. Special thanks to John Warriner and John Eddon for the excellent condition of the green this season. Betty Turnbull and Pat Lawry were thanked for the food and refreshments provided.

RYEDALE VETS TRIPLES BOWLS LEAGUE

The team had a solid performance, winning 9 of their 14 matches and finishing third placed in the Division 1 standings.

Sunday the 8th September's Floodlight (3 wood) Triples brought glorious sunny weather and 24 teams from across Yorkshire to contest the KMS Floodlight Triples trophy and highest placed runners-up shield - Congratulations to trophy winners, Elmfield BC (Hebburn) who won a tight game against West Park BC (York), and to third placed consolation shield winners, Thoronton Le Dale BC.
