If I told you that your new exercise class on Tuesday afternoon is a one and a half hour session of walking, stretching, bending, mental focus and coordinated movement you might think i'd booked you in for pilates or yoga, or maybe Tai Chi. Well it's none of these, rather it's one of our Tuesday afternoon turn-up & play 'social bowling' sessions.

Every Tuesday between 2 and 3.30 you can give your quads, glutes, abs, triceps and biceps a different workout. Unlike our competitive league bowling schedule (emphasis on the 'competitive') the social bowling sessions are a place where you can unwind, enjoy some friendly company, meet friends or make friends, have some gentle exercise, and maybe discuss the best way to fix the geopolitical turmoil and why car parking charges in York are criminal.

The best thing is that our social bowling sessions can work for everyone from existing bowls players to complete beginners. Age isn't a barrier and neither is fitness. In fact, bowling can be a great form of gentle rehabilitation and many people on the road to recovery for everthing from a strained backs to a strokes can potentially benefit from playing bowls. Of course the usual disclaimer of 'speak to your GP first' applies. We welcome anyone who has been put off exercise because they didnt know what they could do or they needed a bit of encouragement to do something regularly. Don't forget, 'health' is much wider that just 'illness or recovery', so bowling is ideal for anyone who might simply want to get out more or have a bit of social company.

Our Tuesday social bowling sessions cost £3 per person or free to members, and membership costs £45 and runs through the bowling season from April to September.
