At the close of the 2024 bowling season, in September, our resident greenkeepers (The Two John's) wasted no time in working their magic, to breath new life into the green. As they cut, scarified, spread grass seed and watered-in 'turf conditioner', nearby residents report hearing them reciting the Song of Witches from Macbeth...

"Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and caldron bubble. Filet of fenny snake; In the caldron boil and bake; Eye of newt and toe of frog, Wool of bat and tongue of dog, Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting, Lizard's leg and howlet's wing, For a charm of powerful trouble, Like a hell-broth boil and bubble... Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and caldron bubble. Cool it with a baboon's blood, Then the charm is firm and good."

Strangely, no mention of 'cast of worms', as we seem to have a lot of that !
